Africa Calling

Montana nature photographer, Douglass Dye, fulfilled a longtime dream in 2015 by traveling to Africa with a group of six photographers from the Flathead Valley. His journey took him to Johannesburg, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Zambia.

Dye had the pleasure of experiencing “the big five” of African wildlife: lions, leopards, elephants, rhinoceroses, and cape buffalo. In addition to those he was also able to photograph giraffes, warthogs, wildebeests, hippopotamus, nyala, waterbuck, crocodiles, and many species of birds. The highlight of his trip was a showdown between lions and crocodiles fighting over the carcass of a water buffalo. Dye said, “It would be a two-day photo shoot that ended with some of my most enduring images.”

Dye will be here in Shelby  for one night giving a video presentation at St. Luke’s Parish Hall on May 16th at 7 p.m. If you have ever longed to see the wildlife of Africa, then mark your calendars for this event!
